Our Vision
“Promotion of good governance that serves the interest of Free Staters.”
An organ of state mandated by the Constitution to enact provincial legislation, conduct oversight, and facilitate meaningful public participation.
The Legislature promotes good governance through law-making, public involvement, and oversight over the provincial executive.
Our work is centred on serving Free Staters through accountable, transparent, and participatory governance.
“Promotion of good governance that serves the interest of Free Staters.”
“To ensure good governance through law making, public participation and oversight.”
Derived from Sections 104 and 114 of the Constitution, the Legislature passes laws, conducts oversight, and facilitates public involvement.
The Legislature strengthens democracy through law-making, oversight, and public participation.
The Free State Legislature has the constitutional power to consider, pass, amend, or reject any bill before the Legislature.
This power must be exercised in a responsive and unbiased manner, supported by consultation processes and public hearings.
In terms of Section 114 of the Constitution, the Legislature holds the Executive accountable and scrutinises departmental performance and expenditure.
Committees use oversight tools such as meetings, site visits, public hearings, and sectoral engagements to monitor service delivery.
Public participation ensures that citizens are involved in legislative processes and can influence decisions that affect their communities.
Citizens may attend committee meetings, submit petitions, and participate in public hearings and sectoral parliaments.
The Legislature is composed of Members from political parties elected proportionally to represent citizens of the Free State.
Participate in public hearings, submit petitions, follow committee work, and stay informed through the Legislature’s public notices and publications.
