Free State Legislature Provides Update on Preparations for Official Opening and SOPA 2026

The Presiding Officers of the Free State Legislature, led by the Speaker, Hon. Mxolisi Dukwana, and Deputy Speaker,  Hon. N. L. Ndungane, today convened a media briefing to provide an update on preparations for the Official Opening of the House and the State of the Province Address (SOPA).

During the briefing, the Presiding Officers outlined the Legislature’s readiness to host these important constitutional events, highlighting logistical arrangements, security measures, protocol coordination, and intergovernmental collaboration to ensure the smooth running of proceedings. The briefing also reaffirmed the Legislature’s commitment to transparency, public participation, and effective communication with stakeholders and the public.

The State of the Province Address will be delivered by the Premier of the Free State, Hon. MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae, and is expected to outline government’s policy direction, priorities, and programmes for the year ahead. The address forms a critical part of the provincial legislative calendar and provides a platform to account on progress made while setting out plans to address the socio-economic challenges facing the province.

The media briefing forms part of ongoing engagements ahead of #SOPA2026, as the Free State Legislature continues to play its oversight role and ensure that the Official Opening of the House and the State of the Province Address are conducted in a manner that upholds the values of democracy, accountability, and good governance.
