The Free State Legislature’s Petitions Committee convened on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, at Dihlabeng Town Hall in Bethlehem to consider petitions submitted by members of the public.

The Committee considered two petitions:

  1. Green Organic Vegetable NPC versus the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
  2. Residents of Naledi, Franshoek and Nebo villages in Ficksburg versus the Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport, regarding poor road conditions that affect learners and farmers on a daily basis.

The sitting was chaired by Hon. M.J. Mokoena, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Petitions.

In his closing remarks, Hon. Mokoena urged the Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Tshepo Mabilo, to ensure that all grants allocated to Green Organic Vegetable NPC are disbursed appropriately and in accordance with prescribed procedures.

The Petitions Committee reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the voices of communities are heard and that government departments are held accountable for addressing service-delivery challenges raised by the people of the Free State.
