Speaker Mxolisi Dukwana leads debate on the 2026 Appropriation Bill, with members praising its focus on poverty alleviation, job creation, and key sector funding.
Bloemfontein, Free State — The Speaker of the Free State Legislature, Hon. Mxolisi Dukwana, today led the debate on the Appropriation Bill [B3–2026] at the Interim Chamber, Southern Life Building, in Bloemfontein.
The budget, tabled by the MEC for Finance, Hon. Toto Makume, on 17 March 2026, received strong support from members of the Legislature. During deliberations, various members commended the budget for its clear focus on addressing critical socio-economic challenges within the province.
The House welcomed the budget’s commitment to waging a decisive war against poverty, creating sustainable employment opportunities, and supporting livelihoods across the Free State.
Members further highlighted allocations directed towards key sectors, including the Department of Health, the Department of Education, and the Department of Public Works & Infrastructure. These were recognised as strategic investments aimed at advancing service delivery and driving the province’s developmental agenda.
The debate underscored the Legislature’s ongoing role in ensuring that public resources are allocated effectively to improve the quality of life for all residents of the Free State.
